I generally ignore sport and the jock culture that goes along with it but it is impossible not to get sucked in when there are two world cup events happening at the same time. I really hesitate to call twenty20 cricket an actual sport but it certainly seems popular with the crowds and it was great to see Zimbabwe beating Australia the other night (a case of the people with no bread beating the people who stole bread?).
Everyone knows that matches are always more interesting when there is actual money riding on the result so I have opened a R500 account with a local bookmaker. Here are my predictions and bets for this weekend - 4 Southern Hemisphere wins over their useless Northern Hemisphere counterparts. The only concession I am giving to the north is that I don't think New Zealand will win by more than 115 points.
Rugby World Cup 2007
South Africa vs England - 14th September - SA to win by at least 17 points (R100 at 9/10)
New Zealand vs Portugal - 15th September - New Zealand to win by less than 115 points (R100 at 1/1)
Australia vs Wales - 15th September - Australia to win by at least 12 points (R100 at 1/1)
Cricket Twenty20 World Cup
Australia vs England - 14 September - Australia to win (R200 at 4/10)
